telc Examination

A telc exam is a standardized language test developed and administered by telc GmbH (The European Language Certificates). telc is a non-profit organization that offers internationally recognized language certificates in various languages and at all levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) (A1 to C2).

Important aspects of telc exams:

  • Internationally recognized: telc certificates are recognized in many countries and are often accepted for educational purposes (e.g., university admission), professional purposes (e.g., proof of language skills for employers), or for demonstrating language proficiency in the context of naturalization procedures.
  • Various languages and levels: telc offers exams in over 10 languages, including German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, and Russian. The exams cover all six competency levels of the CEFR (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2).
  • Standardized and objective: The exams are developed and evaluated according to uniform criteria to ensure a high degree of comparability and objectivity of the results.
  • Skills-oriented: The exams test the four main skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking. Depending on the level and exam format, language elements (grammar and vocabulary) may also be tested.
  • Various formats: There are general language exams as well as subject-specific exams, e.g., for work (telc Deutsch für den Beruf), for nursing (telc Deutsch B1-B2 Pflege), or for studies (telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule).
  • Written and oral parts: Most telc exams consist of a written and an oral part. The exact duration and task formats vary depending on the level and exam.
  • Test centers: telc exams can be taken at licensed telc test centers worldwide.
  • Preparation: Although some exams can be taken without specific preparation (e.g., telc Deutsch A1), targeted preparation is recommended for higher levels. We offer special preparation courses.
